About
Ash Garner – THECOLORG (b. 1991, Central PA) is a millennial feminine queer interdisciplinary artist based in Philadelphia, PA. She earned her BFA from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania in 2014 and her MFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in 2020.
Ash's work challenges perceived binaries, conscious/unconscious bias, and societal expectations by analyzing and bridging my childhood experiences with my adulthood experiences. She creates visual interpretations of those relationships using soft sculpture, fiber, and site-specific installation. Her recent work intends to recognize the rural as a place of contemporary art in contrast to the urban which tends to be the default in determining what is contemporary, and what is art. THECOLORG has been exhibited at museums, galleries, and institutions that include Annmarie Sculpture Garden & Arts Center - In Association with the Smithsonian Institution, Solomons, MD; Lycoming College Gallery, Williamsport, PA; Atelier FAS Gallery, Philadelphia, PA; the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Philadelphia, PA; Cherry Street Pier, Philadelphia, PA; Point Park University, Pittsburgh, PA; Westin Convention Center, Philadelphia, PA; Framehouse and Jask Gallery, Pittsburgh, PA; The Brewhouse Association, Pittsburgh, PA; Fusion Atelier, Brookville, PA; Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, Edinboro, PA; and the Erie Art Museum, Erie, PA. She recently attended a fully funded 5-week residency at Chautauqua Visual Arts at Chautauqua Institution. Ash is also attending a 2-week residency at the Studios at MASS MoCA in November 2021, funded by a PAFA fellowship. |
